Masticating vegetable juicers do have the down side of being a bit slower than centrifugal juicers. The difference is not usually very large, in the order of about an extra 20-30 seconds per glass of juice.
However, the big advantage of masticating juicers is that they can process harder, tougher ingredients because they work slower. Amongst other things this means they can juice wheat grass, something centrifugal juicers cannot do at all. On the whole, if you want versatility, you would be well advised to choose a masticating fruit and vegetable juicer.
