Essential oils have been used for centuries for many different reasons, the most common use of essential oils is in the perfume and cologne industry but it may surprise you to know that these oils have many other uses, they are commonly used in holistic health therapies like aromatherapy and massage but they can also be found in pharmaceuticals like toothpaste, commericial cough medicines and ointments for muscle pain.
Perhaps the most surprising use of essential oils is in food. Many foodstufs and drinks are flavoured with these oils, a few examples would be chocolate and confectionary, preservved meat, sauces, pickles and even alcohol. The amounts used are very small due to the powerfull concentration of the essences and absorbing too much could be harmful. Essential oils are derived from plants, and can be extracted from the root, from the trunk of a tree, from leaves or petals and the fruit itself.
