Moisturizing Contact Lenses Feel Better

Many people who wear contacts report that their eyes get dry which sometimes leads to redness and discomfort. Some people will even discontinue wearing contact lenses and go back to just wearing glasses because of contact lens dryness. That doesn’t have to be. There are ways that you can keep your contacts moist, thus enjoy wearing them more and feel better.

First, make sure that you’re adequately cleaning your contacts daily. This is important. Always use new cleaning solution in your contact lens case and get a new case monthly. The better you take care of them, the better they will work for you.

Second, use rewetting drops before you need them. If you wait to use rewetting drops mid-evening, then your eyes are already dried out and are telling you they need more moisture. So try to remember to use your rewetting drops before that happens and then your eyes won’t complain. Pick the same time each evening to use them – like maybe right before or right after you eat dinner.

Third, think about eye protection if you are outside. If you are going to be on a boat, in a convertible car, or doing sports like skiing where the wind is rushing toward  you, then wear sunglasses to block the wind from drying out your eyes. If it’s not sunny out, you can get clear glasses or ones that are not too dark and they will work fine for you.

Yet another option is to get special contacts now that are moisturizing. They are now available for some people and they do not dry out as often as normal contacts. Contact lens technology is improving and every year, the manufacturers of contact lenses will come out with better and better lenses that help improve things like your eyes drying out.
