Showing horses is a sport that is not for everyone. No matter the breed of horse there are always shows that you can take your horse too and compete.
Some show horses are very expensive for showing and buying, while others are cheap horses for sale or showing. Some horses are bred for halter showing while others are bred for performance. Show horses are different from your average trail or back yard horse. The show horse requires specialized training and very specific care. Most people won’t leave a show horse out on a pasture board. To do so would leave the horse open to get injured. It could be something as simple as pulling a muscle that would keep that show horse out of the show ring.
Horse gifts for a show horse are usually very specific as their feed and tack are more specialized than the average backyard horse. To avoid any kind of injuries most show horses are stalled and usually are taken out daily for light turnout and for training. Some stalls have a run attached that allows them more room to move and stretch, but for the most part they are kept in a controlled environment to keep the injuries at bay.
Show horses can travel a short distance to a show or thousands of miles. Some are even taken out of the country to regularly attend shows. The distance traveled often times depends on what type of show you’re competing with your horse in. Horse shows can be simple 4-H shows, county fairs, or specialized shows. Some specialized shows include ranch versatility, cutting and reining, competitive trail competitions, and breed or color shows. Some show horses will go to many different types of shows each year from local shows to regional shows and even national competitions.
Not a lot go to the international competitions unless they live close to the border of the country where the show will take place. In all show horses are treated very different than the average trail horse.
