While the trend of wearing slipper boots like Uggs started in the late nineties, they really started to catch on after one of America’s biggest celebrities noticed them. In 2000, Oprah Winfrey bought 350 pairs of Uggs and gave one to every member of her staff. She decided that she liked these shoes and when Oprah likes something, it is sure to become a phenomenon. Later, in 2005, she included Uggs in her Favorite Tings episode and then they really took off. 2006 and 2007 were the high point for this style of shoe. Slipper boots were seen on almost every major celebrity in every celebrity magazine. People all across the United States and all over the world were wearing these shoes. Major designers had been including slipper boots in their fashion shows for seven or more years, but not until the Queen of daytime television gave her stamp did they become a fad as big as they were.
