Kitchen Window Treatments

You are going to get your kitchen redone to make it look better and be more convenient. There are several choices you can make in order to get exactly what you want.

You may decide to reface your cabinets. This may be the least expensive way to get a new look to your kitchen, and many people are able to do it themselves. If your kitchen cabinets are a solid wood rather than a laminate, you can remove the doors and drawer fronts; sand down the cabinets, the doors, and drawer fronts; re-stain or repaint the doors, drawer fronts, and cabinets; replace the hardware with new hardware, then return the doors to the cabinets and the drawer fronts to the drawers.

Sometimes replacing the kitchen window will give you a whole new appreciation of your kitchen. A simple replacement of a window with a thermopane window, helping keep the kitchen warmer may be what you most desire. You may wish to replace your kitchen window with a larger window, a bay window, a recessed window, or a breakfast nook with windows all around.

Kitchen window treatments are also quite varied. Usually in a kitchen, the window treatments are washable because there is always the possibility of food splashing onto the curtains, necessitating a visit to the washing machine. One popular treatment is with a curtain rod halfway up the window for privacy, then a topper at the top of the window for a decorative effect with the rest of the window uncovered for ease in looking outside to enjoy the seasons.

Refacing your kitchen cabinets gives a much greater scope for having a completely new look for your kitchen. You may decide to have an island in the center of your kitchen. You may decide to eliminate the soffit in order to have more cabinet space, and then put swivel shelves where the cabinets meet for ease of reaching more of your kitchen items. The style of kitchen cabinet you choose may have some doors with windows in to display some of your prettiest dishes and glasses. The colors available are also varied. White or an oak stain will give your kitchen a roomier look. The darker colors of black, walnut or chestnut will be more appropriate for a larger kitchen that does not need any enhanced feeling of space. The door style may be smooth, beveled, or with decorative edging. Cabinets can go above the sink, above the refrigerator, and stove.

Whatever you decide to change in your kitchen, enjoy the result. You deserve it.
