Like with many antiques, there is just something about wall clocks that makes them collectible treasures. Not everyone can appreciate a clock for its inherent properties or mechanical workings, but most can appreciate their charm. There is just something almost magical about an item that likely once hung in someone’s home; oh, the stories it could tell. This is what you can do if you get an antique wall clock in your home. It doesn’t even have to tell accurate time. Heck, it doesn’t even need to tell time at all. It can just be for looks and that alone will give your room a special look and feel. After all, not many homes have a wood wall clock in them anymore. If they do, it’s probably a newer one made only a few short years ago.
This isn’t to knock the newer wall clocks or their designs, they are quite lovely in fact. However, there is just something about time and history that you just can’t ‘build’ into something new. It is like aged copper. Yes, there are ways that you can treat copper to make it appear like it has aged, but there is nothing like the real elements to create just that perfect looking patina. Ironically enough, the original wall clocks were on the sides of mountains and buildings, in train stations and hotel lobbies – all exposed to the elements, for the most part. While they weren’t made of copper, they still had that rustic appeal to them.
You can achieve this look in your home as well. There are metal wall clocks as well as wood and they are striking as well. If you have something more contemporary or even whimsical in mind, there is a clock for you as well. With the technology in fabrication, most any design can be resin molded or built in some fashion. You might not get that old-world, hand crafted detail, but if that is not a major concern for you, then you can still get a nice looking wall clock.
