A Benefit of a Copper Kitchen Sink That You May Not Know About

The copper kitchen sink is gaining a lot of popularity lately.  In a way, this is part of that phrase, “Everything old is new again”.  However, it’s really not anything new as copper is one of the oldest metals in existence, dating back nearly 10,000 years.  It was used for everything from jewelry to weapons, cook ware, vessels and even plumbing as far back as 5,000 years – found at the Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt… and found in working condition, no less!  Even today, copper is considered to be the premier material for cookware by the worlds’ top chefs due to its excellent and even heat conduction; it produces no ‘hot spots’ when conducting heat for cooking.

The great thing with regards to its use for sinks, especially kitchen sinks, is that it is actually quite anti bacterial.  Scientific studies have shown that that in a stainless steel sink, bacteria can live and survive for numerous days.  In a copper sink however, they are only able to survive for a matter of hours.  To me, the thought of waking up to a sink every day that I know has zero bacteria in it is a pretty cool thought.
