Making your own homemade juicer recipe will provide you with an exceptionally nutritious drink. They can help improve our overall health and well being and help protect us from developing degenerative diseases and premature aging. Here are some tips for producing the healthiest juice recipes possible.

1) Drink it fresh! Don’t leave the juice sitting around, drink it right away. As soon as a fruit or vegetable has been juiced it is open to oxidation and the nutrition begins to die off. Vitamin C and living enzymes are particularly sensitive to oxidation.

2) Buy organic whenever possible. Organic produce has not been sprayed with pesticides and other chemicals that are hazardous to our health. Some pesticides even contain arsenic and lead, two of the most toxic of heavy metals. So organic juice recipes will be free or such residues.

3) It is not always possible or cost effective to buy organic so there are a few things we can do to minimize the amount of pesticides that end up in our juices. Peeling produce is a great help because the peel is where most of the pesticides are found. A thorough wash also helps to wash away some pesticides. Health food stores often carry vegetable washes that are designed specifically for aiding in pesticide removal.

4) If the produce we are using is organic then it is fine in most cases to juice the skins. However there are a few exceptions. Orange and grapefruit skins will produce an unpleasant and sour tasting juice and also contain a toxic substance that is harmful in great quantities. Kiwis , pineapples and papayas and other tropical fruits may be sprayed with chemicals that are illegal in the USA. So it is advisable to peel the skins of tropical fruit.

5) If you juice potatoes ensure there is no green tint to them. The chemical that puts the green hue in potatoes is called solanine and can cause abdominal cramps, vomiting and diarrhea.

6) The seeds in fruits are usually no problem to juice. apple pips are an exception because they contain cyanide. I would avoid juicing tomato pips too. They are not poisonous but they can get stuck in the blade of your juicing machine which increases clean up time. Pits should never go in juicing machines they are too hard, even the small pits that you find in cherries will harm your juicer.

7) Bananas, avocados and papayas are not well suited for making a juicer recipe because of their low water content. You will need MANY of them to produce very little juice. They also continually clog up your juicing machine.
