While a lot of dog owners spend a huge amount on the right kind of dog food, the much-required regular check ups, baskets or kennels, and endless number of things, it’s surprising to see that most dogs, irrespective of how pampered they are, have a simple dog collar. This is very ironical for the simple reason that collars are the only way you can help your canine ‘accessorize’! Since there’s nothing else that your dog wears day in and day out, his or her over all look depends upon his collar.

It’s a known fact that harnesses are way more comfortable for both; the owner and the dog. A harness makes it easier for a dog owner to take his pet for a walk and at the same time, it’s a great relief for the dog because he can pull harder and sniff around conveniently without chocking himself while doing so. Yet, it’s widely observed that majority of dog owner still opt for collars.

While buying dog collar, there are plenty of options to choose from. There are different kind of materials, designs, colors and patterns available in innumerable brands. One such popular design is a spiked dog collar. Even if you haven’t seen one for yourself, it’s very likely that you can picture it perfectly well as the dog collar of the tough ‘spike’ from the legendary cartoon ‘tom and jerry’. But that is precisely where most people tend to misjudge this beautiful design. It’s important to try on such a collar on your dog before setting your mindset against it. Most people seem to feel that such collars are fit only for the ‘tough, rip-you-off’ kind of breeds. But this is very far away from the actual truth of the situation.

Spiked collars are available in plenty of patterns. The most important part of this collar, that decides how tough or not tough it makes your dog look, is the pattern of spikes. Some of these patterns are designed in a way to give a very soft and stylish look. Something like one row of thick spikes on a narrow belt is sure to give a scary look; however, a thick strap with multiple rows of spikes embedded in a cute pattern is sure to give a very soft and sophisticated look to your pooch. It’s somewhat like a trial and error method; you really can’t imagine the actual look the collar brings out unless you make your dog try it on for once!

Showing horses is a sport that is not for everyone. No matter the breed of horse there are always shows that you can take your horse too and compete.

Some show horses are very expensive for showing and buying, while others are cheap horses for sale or showing. Some horses are bred for halter showing while others are bred for performance. Show horses are different from your average trail or back yard horse. The show horse requires specialized training and very specific care. Most people won’t leave a show horse out on a pasture board. To do so would leave the horse open to get injured. It could be something as simple as pulling a muscle that would keep that show horse out of the show ring.

Horse gifts for a show horse are usually very specific as their feed and tack are more specialized than the average backyard horse. To avoid any kind of injuries most show horses are stalled and usually are taken out daily for light turnout and for training. Some stalls have a run attached that allows them more room to move and stretch, but for the most part they are kept in a controlled environment to keep the injuries at bay.

Show horses can travel a short distance to a show or thousands of miles. Some are even taken out of the country to regularly attend shows. The distance traveled often times depends on what type of show you’re competing with your horse in. Horse shows can be simple 4-H shows, county fairs, or specialized shows. Some specialized shows include ranch versatility, cutting and reining, competitive trail competitions, and breed or color shows. Some show horses will go to many different types of shows each year from local shows to regional shows and even national competitions.

Not a lot go to the international competitions unless they live close to the border of the country where the show will take place. In all show horses are treated very different than the average trail horse.

For nearly all dog owners, their pet is one of the family. Their friendly, loyal personalities and loving natures make it easy to see why. Of course they are not fussy about who their owner is, as long as they feel safe and loved, but some dogs are lucky enough to end up in the hands of people who have large amounts of disposable income to spend.

If you have the money for it then there is a large market in luxury wooden dog kennels. These kennels stand head and shoulders about the standard one room, pitched roof affairs that most dogs call home. Assuming that most people with a large income also have a large garden, luxury kennels are usually large affairs. They often have a nice veranda in front on which your dog can lie and enjoy the sunshine or watch the world go by. The floor should be raised to allow air to circulate and to keep the cold out and the walls, floor and ceiling should be well insulated so that the pampered pooch won’t feel chilled in the winter weather.

Other features that you can choose for your dog house are electric points so that you can plug in a heated pet bed or lighting, curtains for the windows, a toy box for his dog chews and balls and a cozy raised bed. Many people also choose to have a kennel with 2 rooms. One room is accessible from the outside and is basically a living room where your dog can play or rest while the second room is entered via a doorway from the living room. This is meant to be the bedroom as the lack of an external door keeps it extra warm and secure.

If you really want to push the boat out then it is even possible to have a raised deck containing a doggy pool adjoining the kennel!

Choosing a dog bed may sound like something simple but to pick the best bed for your dog, there are a number of things to consider.

Are you also sick and tired of your dog having problems falling asleep? Whatever the size of your dog makes no difference – there are beds for every type available.

How would you choose a bed for your dog? This depends quite a few things.

Cuddler Beds

These beds for your dog come in many shapes, but the most popular seems to be the one that’s like a donut. Protected from cold weather and drafts inside the donut, the bed is soft and warm so the little pooch has a place to curl up in. Great for chihuahuas, pinschers, and other lap dogs!

Bolster Beds

Your dog might be the type that likes to walk around a hundred times in a circle on its bed before it lies down. As if it’s making a nest! These dogs need lots of space for beds. They toss and turn, dreaming of sweet chases through meadows filled with their dog friends. They like to spread out and need a lot of space. Their bed is often a very large, soft pillow. But the pillow should be easy to remove from the bed so the sleeping place for your dog is easy to clean.

Orthopedic Dog Beds

Many people often forget that dogs suffer from arthritis in their old age too. These dogs will need a special orthopedic bed. The bed will keep the joints of aging dogs cushioned. These beds come in summer and winter varieties which simply means your dog cool in the summer and heated in the winter.

Biteproof Beds

Of course, let’s not forget those dogs that love to tear apart the lovely cushions on their bed. Tough, weatherproof, washable dog beds, there are dog beds made of a patented material that provides comfort, support and most importantly, durability for your dog.

Taking care of an animal and learning how to do it is one of the most essential aspects in owning a pet. Many people jumps into buying or adopting a pet without really considering the responsibilities that accompany it. Having a pet is like having a child. Pets need to be pampered, checked up by vets and above all, loved. Pets, by giving you companionship, friendship, enjoyment and love would expect you to do things for them that would result in their well-being.

Having a pet insurance would be a good sign that you are being responsible – not only for your pet but also for yourself. If you have a dog, better find the best dog insurance around. And much more pet insurance could offer you good policies for your cat, bird or snake. ASDA pet insurance could offer you policies for your pet – of any kind – that would not only seek for your pet’s good welfare but also for your convenience. ASDA can offer you a complete pet insurance coverage that would mean, at times of accidents and unexpected illnesses, your pet will have nursing care, surgeries and even X-rays.

Some of you might not be as good as veterinaries but that is not a reason not to learn how to do first aids for your pet. There are just cases that you couldn’t simply do at home and a vet’s assistance would be a highly recommendation. However, being able to fulfill the basic pet needs would not be that arduous. Like taking care of your pet’s teeth –in case of mammals – would not require you to visit a vet so often. Brushing three times a week would do just fine but daily brushing would prevent gingivitis. Take note that human toothpaste is not recommended for your dog or cat because it contains materials that needs not to be swallowed.

Regular application of flea powder would also save you some bucks for going into vets. You cannot always protect your pet from these parasites and preventing them from infecting your pet is much better than curing the infections once they are there. Flea powder would only offer two to three days of protection. In case your pet already acquired fleas, shampoo against it is right over the counter. But always read the label and instructions before applying it to your pet. Be strict on following those instructions.

Oftentimes, you concentrate so much on your pet’s fur that you neglect its paws. Just like human does with their feet. Never forget to trim their nails and to clean their toes. Remove any foreign objects you see – like ticks for that matter – and be extra careful because the areas between their toes are sensitive. Also check their paw pads because it is the most susceptible to cuts and wound. If you see any cuts, treat them with ointment or iodine.

Clean environment and good hygiene will always result in good health. It is much nicer to see that your pets are well-groomed and yet you didn’t spend much time in a vet’s clinic. Be loyal to your pets because they can be loyal to you far more than your expectations could be.

In the wild, chinchillas live at high altitudes in the Andes of South America. They were originally bred in captivity for their beautiful fur. Nowadays, chinchillas are more often kept as pets. They are fastidious groomers so they rarely have any odor and they are very attractive. On the other hand, bear in mind that they are often unhappy to be handled and are nocturnal so interaction with a chinchilla can be made difficult.

This means that you have to provide them with a stimulating and enriched environment to live in. If you are thinking about buying a chinchilla, this article will hopefully help show you how to house chinchillas in custom chinchilla cages.

Chinchillas have a lot of requirements that you have to consider in order not to compromise their welfare. Firstly they have a large space requirement. This is why custom chinchilla cages are so desirable. You can specify the size of cage you would like and have it made to those dimensions. A single chinchilla should be kept in a cage at least 2m x 2m x 1m. Height is particularly important because chinchillas love to jump. The cage should always be kept indoors to protect the chinchilla from the weather and from predators.

Because chinchillas are rodents, they will gnaw at everything! When buying a cage for a chinchilla, look for all-wire models. This reduces the chance of your new chinchilla making a great escape! Make sure that the wire is made from something like galvanized zinc or aluminum.

Once you have ordered a good custom cage, put in a nest box, plenty of branches to gnaw on and a dust bath. A dust bath is very important to maintain fur quality in your chinchilla. You can also accessorize your chinchilla cage with toys like chinchilla hammocks!

Once you have done all this you simply need to add your chinchilla and if you’ve followed the advice in this article, your chinchilla will be in paradise!

Choke chain dog collars have long been a bone of contention among dog trainers.

One school of thought claims they’re the only sure fire method of training a difficult dog.

The other sees them as objects of torture. The subject is examined in depth in Dogs Today magazine (October 2009, ps 96-99). Kirsy Peake’s feature, Punitive Training, takes an in-depth look at the work of Pet Behaviourists and Trainers who now have their own professional organisation with more than 300 members.

Their methods cause no fear, stress or cruelty to pets… unlike choke chain dog collars which, if not used properly, can cause the animal untold misery.

It is so important to train a dog before bad habits develop.

Dog ramps provide easier access for your beloved pets to overcome a particular obstacle. They assist your dog in numerous situations like when going inside your vehicle, going up on the top of the kitchen counter, climbing up the stairs or just simply reaching something from an elevated surface.

Ramps for dogs are available in different sizes, weight capacities, shapes, designs and styles. A folding dog ramp is the most common choice among dog owners due its portability and ease of use. Unlike a non-foldable ramp, folding ramps can be easily stored even in small spaces. Additionally, you can also easily set it up again when your pet needs to use it. Aside from that, you can also conveniently carry it outside your home’s premises. Folding dog ramps are versatile, functional, easy to carry, and definitely a worthy investment!

While kittens may just seem like small versions of cats they need a bit different care and attention. It’s kind of like kids versus adults. Proper kitten care is important because it can set the stage for the coming years with your kitten as she grows into an adult cat.

It’s important to get the right kitten supplies, a kitten sized litter box, food made for kittens and bowls that a kitten will be comfortable eating from, and maybe a book on kitten care so you can start good habits from the start and provide the right nutrition. Be diligent about putting her in the litter box every couple of hours and after eating until she understands how to use it.

Kittens are incredibly playful and they need to play to help with muscle development and motor skills. Have plenty of toys for your kitten and play with her multiple times a day while she’s young.

Because they are playful and curious you’ll need to kitten proof your home because they will get into any and everything. But remember they’re not trying to be devious, they’re just curious kittens.
