Thinking Of Great Surround Sound, Think 5.1 Speakers

Surround sound has come a long way in the past several years. The most common of which is the use of 5.1 speakers. Standard movie theaters use 5.1 speakers by means of DSD, DTS, or SDDS which is actually 7.1. The first two are produced by Dolby and the last by Sony. In home entertainment systems there is the DSD, which is really close to the DSD used in theaters, but not quite the same type.

This actually means 5.1 channels of speakers, which is funny because they actually have six speakers involved. There is five speakers surrounding the audience which have a 3-D effect to anyone in between. They are the left forward, center forward, right forward, left back, and right back speakers that make up the five in 5.1. Then there is the subwoofer which produces the base and completes the 6 speaker system. The subwoofer is the .1 in the 5.1 Channel Speaker System, also called the LFE Channel. The 5.1 channel system was spawned from 2, 3, and 4 channel systems which all could have the .1 added by including the subwoofer or LFE channel.

If it is great sound you search for, first look at what you will be using the sound system for. If you are just interested in MP3 sound, you could probably get away with just two speakers and a subwoofer. If your looking for home entertainment for movies, television, gaming, and whatever else with exceptional sound at a fair price, then go with a 5.1 speaker.

The simple setup structure that the five speakers plus one subwoofer has, combined with the quality of sound it produces is an unbeatable force. A great way to get started is to speak with a local electronic supply associate, electrical technician, or get more information through online searches. I suggest searching until your comfortable with your knowledge of surround sound before buying a large system.
